Charisse Shumate: Fighting for Our Lives is a 37 minute video about the life of Charisse Shumate, a prisoner incarcerated for killing her abusive boyfriend. In prison, Charisse became an advocate for battered women, and an activist in the fight to improve medical conditions for women in California prisons. She became lead plaintiff and prisoner spokesperson in the class action lawsuit challenging the medical neglect and abuse of women prisoners (aptly named Shumate v. Wilson).

This video was Co-directed, written and edited by Eve Goldberg, and produced by Freedom Archives in collaboration with the California Coalition for Women Prisoners.
